Churches of Fairwater

German Lutheran Church & School Circa 1900

The church was erected in 1870 but was much smaller than pictured. It was enlarged in 1897 with the addition of the steeple and expansion to the North. The school was erected in 1885 and was purchased in 1915 by local blacksmith Owen. H. Riant. The building was moved and attached to his Washington Street shop, in which that burned in 1922.

Free Will Baptist Church circa 1903

Built around 1855/1856, this church sat on the corners of Main & Church Streets. The congregation built a new building in 1903, located next to the cemetery. The old church was sold to A. W. Bonesteel who had it turned/moved onto Church Street, where it was used as a public hall. The Village purchased the building in 1922, where it was converted into the village hall/fire station. It was then purchased by the Lutheran Church in 1947 and used by the congregation until 1956/1957 when the new church was erected.
